Manganese functions primarily as catalysts in Enzymatic and Physiological reactions in plants. It activates Nitrogen metabolism and plays a direct role in photosynthesis. It also regulates the respiration process i.e. oxidation of carbohydrates. It controls the Rodex Potential in plant cells during phases of light and darkness. Manganese accelerates germination and maturity while increasing the availability of Calcium and Phosphorus. Manganese deficiency is first visible on younger leaves with yellowing between veins and greyish to yellow-orange areas namely ‘Grey Speck’ in cereals, ‘Marsh Spot’ in field peas and ‘Streak Disease’ in sugar cane. Foliar spray is recommended as the ideal solution to increase yield in citrus, fodder and major cereal crops.
